What do we mean when we talk about boundaries?
Boundaries are critical to healthy relationships. It's often easy to tell a stranger to get out of your space (like Carter in SG-1's Heroes Part 2 when she tells the camera crew to leave her alone). It can be very difficult to set boundaries with friends, family, and co-workers.
So what exactly is a boundary?
From TherapistAid.com:
"Personal boundaries are the limits and rules we set for ourselves within relationships. A person with healthy boundaries can say “no” to others when they want to, but they are also comfortable opening themselves up to intimacy and close relationships.
A person who always keeps others at a distance (whether emotionally, physically, or otherwise) is said to have rigid boundaries. Alternatively, someone who tends to get too involved with others has porous boundaries."
