Fans Raise $130,000 to Support Babylon 5 Writer Peter David

Peter David’s wife thanks fans for their support with the Babylon 5 and comic-book writer's health costs.

Prolific writer Peter David is currently in rehab following a series of strokes and a mild heart attack, complicated by existing kidney problems.

His wife, Kathleen O’Shea David, updated the legendary creator’s GoFundMe, saying:

“Peter is still in rehab but that is week to week until the insurance decides that he is well enough to come home. The big hurdle is that he is a two-person assist right now. I have the door widening in the works so he can come home along with a couple of other things that will make his life easier...”

A prolific comics writer with defining runs on Incredible Hulk, X-Factor, and Amazing Spider-Man, David also wrote the Babylon 5 episodes ‘Soul Mates’ (S2, Ep7) and ‘There All the Honor Lies’ (S2, Ep14), and the Crusade episode ‘Ruling from the Tomb’ (S1, Ep6).

He also wrote original novels Legions of Fire, Book 1—The Long Night of Centauri Prime (1999), Legions of Fire, Book 2—Armies of Light and Dark (2000), and Legions of Fire, Book 3—Out of the Darkness (2000), and the movie novelizations Babylon 5: In the Beginning (1995), and Babylon 5: Thirdspace (1998).

His other credits include co-creating the TV show Space Cases, tie-in novels for Alien Nation and Battlestar Galactica, and over 40 Star Trek Pocket Books.

So far fans have raised USD$131,973 towards his medical bills and living expenses via GoFundMe.com. You can also support David through his Patreon.

O’Shea David thanked fans, saying:

“The only thing that has saved us from being homeless and hopeless is each of you. Peter cried when he heard what y'all have done. It gave him a peace of mind so he could focus on healing. You have made it able for me to put in a ramp and some other things in the house that he needs. You have kept this roof over our heads, food on the table, our cars street legal, and our cats in food and litter. For that Peter and I will be eternally grateful, and we thank you every day for it.”
